A detailed and well-documented case for the Douglas Dubler assertion that Leonardo da Vinci was the father of the art of photography. Backed up by evidence from David Hockney's book "Secret Knowledge" Dubler will discuss and highlight the various points, illustrated with da Vinci's work that brought him to this conclusion. ABOUT DOUGLAS DUBLER Douglas Dubler attended Boston University where he learned the formal elements of art as well as its history and concepts. He began as a printmaker and sculptor bringing these talents for detail and dimensional realism into play in his photography. Dubler later worked with Isamu Noguchi whose inspiration eventually led him to receive the Silver Seagull Award from Oriental Photography in Japan. In the 70's Dubler moved to California where he apprenticed with Ansel Adams known for his landscapes and purist aesthetics. Dubler's love for texture and precision may allude to the influence of these masters, but Dubler's images are not pedantic exercises or sanitised simulacra. His works are human artworks in the sense that his models become his supports, his cameras his paintbrushes and nature his colour. This is Dubler's enigma and his paradox that rather than being literal on his motifs, he allows us to dream, to imagine, by not describing what he depicts but by only alluding to it. Douglas Dubler will also be hosting a Professional workshop on Fine Art Digital Printmaking on Wednesday 21st November at Xposure.
